Olympia Fields, Ill. – August 20, 2023… BMW congratulates Viktor Hovland on winning the 2023 BMW Championship today at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois. Hovland shot a course-record 61 in the final round of the tournament to earn his first FedExCup Playoff event win after finishing the week 17-under-par, winning the event by two strokes.

Despite entering Sunday three shots back, Hovland propelled himself to the top of a leaderboard that featured several major champions by making 10 birdies, including one on the 18th hole. With the win, Hovland moved up to No. 2 in the FedExCup Playoff standings heading into the TOUR Championship next week at East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, Ga.

“To win the BMW Championship at a course like Olympia Fields against the world’s best players is a really incredible feeling,” said Hovland.

Ilka Horstmeier, BMW Group Member of the Board of Management, was joined by Western Golf Association Chairman Joe Desch, Tournament Chairman Mike Bruni, and Olympia Fields Country Club President, William McErlean to present Hovland with the BMW Championship and J.K. Wadley trophies.

“Congratulations to Viktor Hovland on his incredible performance, especially in the final round to win the 2023 BMW Championship,” said Ilka Horstmeier, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Human Resources and Real Estate. “It has been a fantastic tournament week at a historic venue with great fans. Many thanks to the Olympia Fields Country Club, all our partners, volunteers and everyone involved. In addition to hosting a great tournament, the BMW Group is especially proud to know that the BMW Championship makes a difference in the lives of so many young people.”

Earlier in the week, Hovland met with Evans Scholar Diana Llamas of Chicago who was named the sixth BMW Hole-in-One Scholar as a result of his ace during the 2022 BMW Championship. Each year, BMW donates an additional full, four-year Evans Scholarship in the name of the first player to hit a hole in one during tournament play. The Evans Scholar Foundation awards full college tuition and housing scholarships for deserving caddies across the country.

Since 2007, the BMW Championship has raised more than $45 million in support of the Evans Scholars, helping more than 3,300 students achieve their dreams of attending college. Currently, a record 1,130 caddies are enrolled in 24 universities across the nation as Evans Scholars.

On Wednesday, the annual BMW Championship Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am kicked off tournament week. The field featured several celebrity guests including World Series champion and Cy Young winner CC Sabathia, former NFL Pro Bowl receiver and fashion icon Victor Cruz, and the No. 2 overall pick of the Chicago Bulls in the 2002 NBA Draft and ESPN media personality Jay Williams. Evans Scholars and Alumni caddied for the groups, donating their tips back to the Program.

Hovland will defend his title next August when the BMW Championship heads to Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado. Future tournament venues include Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2025, Bellerive Country Club, in St. Louis, Missouri in 2026 and Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey in 2027.
