The 2011 BMW Championship concluded today with Justin Rose emerging victoriously over the field of the PGA TOUR’s top 70 players. Rose began the week by shooting an 8-under 63 on the first day of play and closed with an even-par 71 to seal a two-shot victory over a late-charging John Senden.
Rose entered the event in 34th place in the FedExCup standings and with the victory – his first of the year – jumped to third place among the top 30 who will continue on to the final round of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.
BMW donates all proceeds from the BMW Championship to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which provides full college tuition and housing scholarships to deserving young caddies. Since joining the tournament in 2007, BMW has donated more than $9 million to the Foundation.
“Congratulations to Justin Rose on a wonderful performance and a well-earned victory,” said Jim O’Donnell, President of BMW of North America. “To lead wire-to-wire against 70 of the best players in the world is no small feat. Justin’s performance was inspiring, as is the hard work, dedication and drive of the Evans Scholars, whom the BMW Championship supports. I feel honored to be involved with these wonderful young people and to play a part in their future success.”
“We couldn’t ask for a better partner at this event than BMW,” said John Kaczkowski, Western Golf Association President and CEO. “While the event itself and hospitality provided by BMW always proves to be first class, perhaps more important is their support of the Evans Scholars Foundation, for which more than $9 million has been raised since the BMW Championship began in 2007. Thanks to BMW, hundreds of deserving young people have had the opportunity to realize their dreams.”
