BMW 3 Series for 2003: functional and equipment enhancements make this
award-winner even more compelling
Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, October 1, 2002...At a certain risk of repetition,
"award-winning" continues to be a fair characterization of the BMW 3 Series.
Made up of BMW's most compact Sedans, Sport Wagons, Coupes and Convertibles,
this Series has carved out an identity that is truly the envy of the industry.
It has done so not merely by being compellingly good, but also by exemplifying
BMW's consistency in product character and value. According to a leading
industry analyst in the U.S., the 3 Series is not only "the heart and soul of
the franchise," but "the most popular entry luxury car since 1999." Yet even
such descriptions don't quite do the 3 Series justice, for it is also
consistently the most credible blend of luxury and sportiness in its vehicle
segment. Indeed, it embodies one of the most successful constellations of these
qualities of any vehicle in the world.
For 2003, the 3 Series builds carefully but dynamically on this heritage. The
changes are evolutionary, but significant:
- The available BMW Onboard Navigation System has been re-engineered. It now
uses a DVD database that encompasses the entire U.S.; does its computations
faster than before; and has other functional improvements.
- Pre-wiring for an auxiliary input has been added to all audio systems.
- All Sedan models add a center rear head restraint as standard equipment as of
November production.
- 325i/xi models get a front center armrest as standard equipment.
- A power moonroof becomes standard on 325i/xi Sport Wagons.
- Rain-sensing windshield wipers and automatic headlight control are added to
the available Premium Package on all 325 models.
- 325i Sedan/Sport wagon and 325Ci Coupe models meeting SULEV (Super Ultra-Low
Emissions Vehicle) standards become available in California, Massachusetts, New
York and Vermont.
- The Flat Tire Monitor system on 330 models with optional run-flat tires has
upgraded technology and is renamed Tire Pressure Monitor.
- The 330xi Sedan's Sport Package now includes the run-flat tires and Tire
Pressure Monitor.
- As with other '03 BMWs, the standard Full Maintenance Program now covers 4
years or 50,000 miles, up from 3/36,000 previously.
The range of 10 3 Series models is unchanged for '03:
- 325i Sedan, the most accessible model; powered by a 2.5-liter, 184-hp engine.
$28,495 including destination charge.
- 325xi Sedan, an all-wheel-drive version of the 325i Sedan; $30,245.
- 325i Sport Wagon, a 5-door that adds space and versatility while maintaining
its Sedan counterpart's innate sportiness. $31,095.
- 325xi Wport Wagon, with all-wheel drive to make it an ideal vehicle for
all-season sports activities. $32,845.
- 325Ci Coupe, in 2-door format for added sport and elegance; yet also
practical thanks to its standard split folding rear seats. $30,295.
- 325Ci Convertible, with all of BMW's contemporary design and engineering for
style, enjoyment and safety in a convertible. $37,395.
- 330i Sedan, with the same profile as the 325i Sedan but more power,
additional standard equipment and distinctive design features inside and out.
$35,295.
- 330xi Sedan, the 330i Sedan with all-wheel drive. $37,045.
- 330Ci Coupe, adding a larger engine and further upmarket features to the
sport and elegance of the 325Ci Coupe. $36,295.
- 330Ci Convertible, top of the line. $43,595 with standard leather interior.
