Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, April 8, 2002... Automobile Magazine readers
awarded BMW more "Readers' Choice All-Star" awards than any other manufacturer
in the May 2002 issue. In the annual poll, BMW models won 4 of 14 awards voted
by Automobile Magazine readers:

- Best Luxury Car Under $40,000: BMW 3 Series
- Best Coupe: BMW 3 Series
- Best Sport Sedan/Wagon: BMW M5
- Best Mid-Size Sport Utility Vehicle: BMW X5

In the earlier poll of Automobile Magazine editors, BMW models captured three
awards:

- Best Luxury Car Under $40,000: BMW 525i
- Best GT: BMW M3
- Best Sport Sedan/Wagon: BMW M5

It was the 11th consecutive year that the editors of Automobile Magazine have
chosen at least one BMW model among its prestigious list of All-Stars.

For the tenth time, spanning two model generations, the BMW 3 Series continues
the tradition by earning two All-Star awards; best Luxury Car Under $40,000 and
Best Coupe. Reader observations from the poll concluded, "If the 3 Series is
not the best car in its category, why do all these manufacturers try so hard to
build one for themselves?"

For the third year in a row since its introduction, the BMW M5 was named Best
Sport Sedan/Wagon in both the reader's and the editor's poll. One reader wrote
about the M5; "The very definition of a supercar. It is both super and, when
needed, just a car."

Also for the third year in a row since its introduction, the X5 Sports Activity
Vehicle was named an All-Star for Best Mid-Size Sport Utility Vehicle. A reader
commented, "An SUV whose only performance limitation is the carbon-based life
form attached to the steering wheel."

These opinions of BMW products are shared by many other publications, such as
Car and Driver, in their "10Best" awards for both the 3 Series and 5 Series,
Money Magazine's "Best Buy" award for the X5, and six 2002 "Most Wanted" awards
from Edmunds.com.
