WOODCLIFF LAKE, NEW JERSEY, JULY 5, 2001... BMW was the number one luxury
automotive brand in June, outselling all other luxury competitors in the U.S.
BMW of North America, LLC reported vehicles sales of 20,250 vehicles last
month, for a solid first place ranking among luxury automakers, an increase of
32 percent over sales last June.
BMW sales through the end of the second quarter of 2001 were a record-breaking
107,257, ahead of sales for the same period in 2000 by 20 percent.
"Our sales volume has more than doubled in the past five years and this past
month, we passed the 100,000 unit milestone in less than six months. We sold
just over 50,000 vehicles in the first half of 1996." explained Tom Purves,
chairman and CEO of BMW (US) Holding Corp. "We feel our dedication to product
puts us ahead of the competition. We are continually refining our products to
underscore our commitment to performance, technology, safety and value."
Sales were up across several model lines in June, including the 3 Series and
BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicles.
