Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey...Since its introduction, BMW's K Series has offered
four-cylinder aficionados a sophisticated alternative to the typical inline
four. That's especially true today, as the K Series includes the most refined
examples of luxury- and performance-touring available anywhere: the K 1200 LT
and K 1200 RS. Combining elements from their K Series predecessors with the
leading edge technology from their Boxer-twin stablemates, these two sit
securely at the top of their respective classes.

Their shared success is due in part to their shared componentry, beginning with
the fuel-injected 1171 cc DOHC four-cylinder K Series engine. Whether tuned for
maximum performance in the 130-horsepower K 1200 RS or for effortless response
in the 100-horsepower K 1200 LT, BMW's 16-valve longitudinal/horizontal four
represents a benchmark in sport- and luxury-touring.

Similarly, the K-bike chassis affords a perfect study in elegant solutions to
traditional problems. The chill-cast aluminum frame includes rubber engine
mounts to control vibration, while also providing the pivot points for BMW's
unique Telelever fork and Paralever rear suspension. In addition to its
exceptional chassis response and inherent anti-dive, the K-bike chassis reduces
maintenance significantly, at the front by eliminating steering head bearings,
and at the rear by simplifying tire changes via its single-side Paralever
swingarm.

Both bikes roll on five-spoke alloy wheels, and stop via triple, Brembo disc
brakes. Likewise, antilock braking is standard on both bikes--a class exclusive
in both cases--offering not only an extra margin of safety on uncertain
pavement but making the LT and RS absolute leaders in brake performance.

That's not surprising, given the standard-setting history of BMW's
four-cylinder motorcycles. From the use of Bosch Motronic fuel-injection/engine
management to the introduction of antilock brakes and three-way catalytic
converters, BMW's K Series has been setting standards since its introduction in
1984.
