MINI Cooper. The production versions of the MINI Cooper and MINI ONE also make
their first appearances at Frankfurt. The BMW M3 CSL Lightweight Concept Car
shows M3 performance elevated to new levels. The 2002 3 Series, with styling

The New 7: A Technological Tour de Force
The new BMW 7 Series combines myriad technological and performance enhancements
with dynamic styling to raise the benchmark in the premium luxury sedan
market. Three versions will be shown - the V8 745i and 745Li and, available
next fall, the V12 760Li.
The new 4.4 liter V8 in the 745i/Li incorporates technical advancements that
result in an increase in horsepower of 15% with a reduction in both fuel
consumption and emissions. The new V8 is connected to the world's first
production six-speed automatic transmission which features shift-by-wire
technology. The interior of the 7, featuring iDrive is designed to facilitate
mastery of the ever increasing number of control functions. Functions related
directly related to driving are grouped on or around the steering wheel while
lesser used functions are controlled using the controller on the center console
and control screen mounted high in the center of the dashboard.
Two New CleanEnergy Concepts Show Great Possibilities
The 745h stands as the successor to the 750hL hydrogen-powered cars that were
showcased in the CleanEnergy World Tour. The 4.4 liter V8 in 745h, designed
run on either hydrogen or gasoline, produces 184 bhp (European rating) when
running on hydrogen. The 745h reinforces BMW's commitment to offer a
hydrogen-powered version of the new 7 Series before the end of its life cycle.
The hydrogen powered MINI Cooper prototype uses a production-based pure
hydrogen-fueled engine which utilizes a cryonic fuel/air mixture. Unlike the
745h super-cooled hydrogen is injected into the intake in liquid for to improve
both power and efficiency.
M3 Lightweight Concept Car: Built for Speed
With this concept car BMW M shows that the awesome performance of the
production M3 is by no means all that that platform has to offer. True to M's
racing heritage, the modified 3.2 liter in-line six produces more than 350
horsepower. The six-speed transmission features BMW's Sequential Manual
Gearbox (SMG) with Drivelogic. The extra power of the M3 CSL is combined with
a near 450 pound weight reduction. To make the best of the new-found power and
lighter weight,19 inch wheels and tires cover 18 inch brakes for superior
handling and braking.
2002 3 Series: Fresh Look for the sedan and sport wagon
The 2002 3 Series sedans and sport wagons get a distinct look from the coupes
and convertibles. The headlight and turn signal cluster is restyled. The
wider kidney grilles set off a revised hood. The front bumper and fenders are
refined as well. The sedans receive restyled taillights and a redesigned rear
apron. Bi-xenon lights are now optional featuring xenon light technology for
not only the low-beams but the high beams as well. These are just some of the
features highlighted on the 2002 3 Series.
High-performance BMW X5 4.6is Along with New Features
The X5 4.6is will be available by the end of the year. It's dedicated 4.6
liter V8 produces nearly 350 horsepower and is mated to a specially tuned
STEPTRONIC 5-speed automatic transmission. To back up its greater performance,
the X5 features 20 inch wheels and tires. New interior and exterior touches,
including new colors, make this new top-of-the-line model truly special. Other
X5 features being showcased include Trailer Stability Control. It recognizes
when a trailer is being towed and works with existing systems like DSC-X to
ensure the greatest possible stability when pulling a heavy trailer. Hill
Descent Control has been improved for 2002. While utilizing HDC, the driver
can choose a range of downhill speeds between 4 and 16 mph to make even the
steepest descents safer and easier. Pneumatic self-leveling for both the front
and rear axle allows the driver to select various ride heights as appropriate.
Two New Motorcycles: F 650 CS and R 1150 RS Debut
The F 650 CS is a new "street" version featuring BMW's 650 cc single-cylinder
motor and fresh new styling. Like all BMW motorcycles the engine features
Digital Motor Electronics and a catalytic converter. The F 650 CS introduces
an industry first - a toothed belt drive combined with a single swinging arm
suspension. Toothed belt drive is quiet and clean. It requires no lubrication
and lasts much longer than a chain. Like all BMW motorcycles, the F 650 CS
will be available with ABS brakes.
The R 1150 RS joins other R 1150 models offering a larger, more powerful
motor. To match the higher performance, handing has been improved with new,
lighter wheels. The R 1150 RS features BMW's EVO front brake and is available
with BMW's new Integral ABS. The larger windshield increases windshield area
by approximately 30%
