Site Announced for New Regional Parts Distribution Center
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - August 20, 2004... BMW of North America, LLC has selected
Stockton, California for the site of its fifth regional Parts Distribution
Center and will begin construction in the coming weeks.
The 250,000 square-foot facility, designed to grow with BMW, will support 44
BMW and MINI dealerships in the region, which includes northern California,
Northern Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. The
center will accommodate inventory for all BMW and MINI vehicles - about 70,000
different parts - and will employ about 50 people. Most of those employees
will be hired locally. Completion of the new distribution center, to be
located in the Airport Gateway Center Industrial Park, is scheduled for May,
2005.
"BMW continues to set sales records; in 2003, BMW sold more than 276,000
vehicles in the U.S., an increase of 8 percent over the previous year,"
explained Alan Harris, Vice President of Aftersales. "In addition, the
company is in the midst of its strongest product offensive ever. And, the MINI
Cooper convertible is due to launch in just a few weeks.
"The northwest part of the U.S. continues to be a strong market for BMW Group
and we are committed to providing our dealers, and our customers, with the best
possible service," Harris continued. "With nearly two million BMWs on the road
now, and the exciting new models planned for the coming years, we are ready to
expand our parts logistics capabilities." There are also plans to source BMW
motorcycle parts from this facility.
BMW selected Stockton as the site for its new parts distribution center because
of its proximity to San Francisco - a major market for the luxury automaker.
The Stockton facility will be built by Panattoni Development Company. The
automaker's other four parts centers in the U.S. are located in Mount Olive,
NJ, Ontario, CA, Jacksonville, FL and Senatobia, MS.
