Munich. In the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Technological
Development H.E. Dr. Ali Al Saiedi the grand opening of the new factory in
Sixth of October City near Cairo was celebrated by BMW AG (Germany) and
Bavarian Auto Group on May 10, 2004.
The new factory for CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production is one of the most
modern car plants in the region, where BMW Group has been active for over 20
years.
Applying the CKD strategy, specific parts and components are put together as
kits in precisely defined levels of assembly and shipped to Egypt. In
compliance with the law, a high percentage of locally manufactured car
components is added and then finally assembled into a complete car. The factory
comprises a state of the art body shop as well as a state of the art paint
shop.
Last year Bavarian Auto Group became the new partner for assembly, import,
wholesale and after-sales activities of BMW Group in the Egyptian market.
Lueder Paysen, Senior Vice President BMW Group: "With our partner we have
established the right basis for our ambitious targets and durable success in
Egypt. With the new factory and new dealerships we aim from the first full year
of operation to achieve a higher production and sales volume than we ever had
in the past, on the Egyptian market." In the record year of 1999 over 1,500
BMW cars were sold in Egypt.
Together with Bavarian Auto Group, BMW Group is going to offer the most
fascinating products from the 3 and 5 Series, "Made by BMW" in Egypt.
On the occasion of the factory opening ceremony the new 5 Series was launched
in Egypt with a great evening gala and 1,500 guests on May 10, 2004.
In 2004 Egypt will also witness the launch of a completely new range of
imported cars, starting with the BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible, the BMW
X3, the BMW 1 Series, as well as the MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S and the new
MINI Convertible.
Egypt being an important market for BMW Group, the significant investment made
by the partner will provide employees, suppliers and dealers with sound
business opportunities.
In this sense, BMW Group underlines its long-term commitment to the Egyptian
market and the region with the new factory and partnership.
BMW Group is manufacturing its products at 23 sites in 15 countries, including
Egypt, on four continents. Identical BMW Group standards and processes at all
production sites guarantee premium quality products worldwide.
