BMW (UK) Ltd is pleased to announce the introduction of two new derivatives to
the BMW 3 Series Touring line-up. Aimed at those drivers who seek a dynamic
edge, but who retain a keen eye on cost of ownership, the 318i and 318d Touring
models represent a new entry point to the Touring range.
Please see download attachment for table of model pricing and key performance
figures.
While still offering the same supreme road holding courtesy of the 50:50 weight
distribution and rear-wheel-drive of the flagship six-cylinder models, both new
cars offer the buyer frugal motoring. The 318d Touring has one of the lowest
CO2 figures in the entire BMW range and offers nearly 50mpg on the combined
cycle.
Powered by a 1,995cc four-cylinder, turbo-charged common-rail diesel engine,
the 318d Touring has a maximum output of 122hp at 4,000rpm and 280Nm of torque
at a lowly 1,750rpm. Such performance figures mean the car records a zero to
62mph time of 10.9 seconds before going on to reach a top speed of 127mph. A
CO2 emissions figure of 155g/km sees the 318d Touring sit into the D band for
Vehicle Excise Duty and subsequent cheaper company car ownership. Consumption
on the combined cycle is a parsimonious 48.7mpg.
With its powerplant built at BMW's Hams Hall facility near Birmingham, the 318i
Touring represents affordable petrol-powered motoring in a car that offers
unparalleled dynamics and sporty elegance embodied in a contemporary estate
style. With an engine that develops 129hp at 5,750rpm and a peak torque of
180Nm at 3,250rpm, the 318i Touring also comes with a modicum of pace in
conjunction with a higher rev range to add to the driving experience.
Zero to 62mph is dispatched in 10.4 seconds before a top speed of 128mph is
achieved. Consumption figures on the combined cycle of 37.2mpg means the 318i
Touring will be easy on the wallet while CO2 emissions are 182g/km.
Standard equipment on both introductory models includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a
six-speed manual gearbox, air-conditioning, BMW Professional Radio and Single
CD player, heated and electric door mirrors, all round electric windows,
Dynamic Stability Control and Run-flat tyre technology.
Drivers demanding increased on-road capability and individual styling can opt
for an M Sport version of either car. Featuring Sports Suspension, Sports seats
and M Aerodynamic package, M Sport cars underscore BMW's ultimate driving
machine ethos. Additional equipment on M Sport cars also includes a shortened
gear stick, three spoke M multi-function leather steering wheel, Anthracite
headlining, brushed aluminium interior, M designation door sill finishers and
High-Gloss Shadowline exterior trim.
While offering impressive standard equipment, the BMW 318i Touring and 318d
Touring also come with a raft of practical touches for everyday motoring. A
boot capacity of 460 litres with the rear seats in place and 1,385 litres with
the 60:40 split seats folded allows an owner to stow all but the bulkiest of
items. A split opening tailgate allows smaller items to be placed in the boot,
while the luggage compartment cover automatically moves upwards when the
tailgate is opened to offer easy access.
Both models feature a useful under-floor storage space ensuring that items can
be transported safely and securely. The same compartment area also features a
Luggage Compartment package with a watertight folding box for dirty items, such
as muddy boots and a folding box and storage dividers for greater practicality.
The additional space in the Touring provides an ideal solution for families,
with the car offering two ISOFIX child seat fixings in the rear and, as an
option, one set on the front passenger seat.
