A Special Edition version of BMW Motorrad's celebrated globe-busting machine,
the R1150 GS Adventure, is now available at £9,500 (OTR).
With an array of additional features included as standard and with a
distinctive colour scheme, the new addition to BMW's range will include the
company's advanced Integral ABS braking system, engine protection bars, heated
grips, and white indicator lenses. This package offers customers a saving of
over £500 when compared to a standard GS Adventure with the same specification
added.
The special version of the hugely successful, twin-cylinder machine will
continue to confirm the dominance of the GS range as the number one choice for
global circumnavigation expeditions and overland adventures. Ewan McGregor and
Charley Boorman achieved massive publicity for the R1150 GS Adventure when they
each rode one on the dramatic Long Way Round global adventure. The hard riding
GlobeBusters duo of Kevin and Julia Sanders - holders of a Guinness World
Record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world (achieved on a standard
R1150 GS) - also set a Guinness World Record by completing the fastest ride of
the length of the Americas continent. Not surprisingly, their choice of
machine was the R1150 GS Adventure.
Currently, the White Nights Ride team (a group of ten motorcyclists with
backgrounds ranging from royalty to blue-chip businessmen) are riding 6,500
miles from Vladivostok to St. Petersburg in an attempt to raise $1 million for
charity. For the trip across Russia (much of which will be on dirt tracks or
unpaved roads) the White Nights decided that there was only one motorcycle that
could be relied on to complete the journey - the R1150 GS Adventure.
BMW Motorrad's Motorcycle Marketing Manger Tony Jakeman said: "Since its
launch in 2002, the R1150 GS Adventure has been an incredible success. As well
as being the natural choice of adventure motorcyclists everywhere, we also use
them for our award-winning World of BMW Off-Road Skills courses in south
Wales. This year is the 25th anniversary of the GS range, so anyone purchasing
this particular version of the Adventure will be buying into part of BMW's
heritage."
There will only be 90 Special Edition R1150 GS Adventures allocated to the UK
and they will be available in a unique alpine white and blue colour scheme with
a grey and blue seat. And for those wishing to ride a R1150 GS Adventure
Special Edition to the back of beyond, off-road tyres can be fitted (as an
option) by BMW, for no additional cost.
