It’s a moment the entire MotoGP™ family eagerly anticipates each year: the unveiling of the winner’s car for the BMW M Award. That moment arrived at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands at Assen. Representing all MotoGP™ riders, Brad Binder and Alex Rins revealed the prize that awaits the fastest qualifier of the season: the new BMW M2 CS in Velvet Blue Metallic.
With a spectacular and innovative fan event, MotoGP™ set the stage for the countdown to the 2025 season. For the first time ever, all teams and riders gathered in the Thai capital to launch the season alongside the fans. At the heart of it all: the new BMW M5 Touring MotoGP™ Safety Car, which will join the BMW M5 MotoGP™ Safety Car in 2025 to lead the safety fleet in the most exciting sport on earth.
The winner of the 2024 BMW M Award in MotoGP™ is Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia. The Italian triumphed in a thrilling head-to-head against Spain’s Jorge Martín, with the decision coming down to the season’s final qualifying session at Barcelona. This is Bagnaia’s third consecutive BMW M Award win.
Since 1999, BMW M has provided the fleet of high-performance safety cars for motorcycle racing’s premier class as the “Official Car of MotoGP™.” The latest highlight in this fleet, the BMW M5 MotoGP™ Safety Car, will debut this weekend.
The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, served as the backdrop for the presentation of the winner’s car for the 2024 BMW M Award. On Thursday evening, BMW M GmbH unveiled the high-performance car that will be awarded to the fastest qualifier in MotoGP™ at the end of this season.
At the finale of the 2023 MotoGP™ season in the Spanish city of Valencia, the focus was on the BMW XM Label Red* twice on Saturday. First, the top-of-the-range variant of the first BMW M high-performance car with an electric drive system was presented to the winner of the 2023 BMW M Award, Francesco Bagnaia. BMW M GmbH then unveiled the new BMW XM Label Red Safety Car for the 2024 MotoGP™ season.
In their 25th season as ‘Official Car of MotoGP™’, BMW M GmbH is continuing the tradition of providing an extraordinary highlight as the winner’s car in the BMW M Award: the brand-new BMW XM Label Red (combined fuel consumption: 1.7 – 1.6 l/ 100 km; combined electricity consumption: 34.5 – 33.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 39 – 35 g/km in the WLTP cycle; provisional values; figures for the NEDC cycle: –).
Before he rides for the Bonovo action BMW Racing Team in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at Assen (NED) this weekend, BMW Motorrad works rider Garrett Gerloff (USA) spent a few exciting days in his home of Texas. Gerloff was in Austin (USA) to visit the Grand Prix of the Americas in MotoGP™ – and took the opportunity to take the new BMW M 1000 RR MotoGP™ Safety Bike onto the track for a spin.
The Grande Prémio de Portugal from 24th to 26th March at Portimão marks the start of an anniversary season for BMW M, the 25th season as Official Car of MotoGP™. The close partnership with MotoGP™ rights holder Dorna Sports dates back to 1999. The start of the anniversary season in Portugal will see the new BMW M safety car make its debut. The new BMW M2 MotoGP™ safety car is based on the new BMW M2, which made its world premiere in October.
The final qualifying session of the 2022 MotoGP™ season is over, which meant it was time for the traditional presentation of the BMW M Award at the final in Valencia, Spain on Saturday. This year, Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia won the coveted accolade for the fastest qualifier in MotoGP™ for the first time.
Since 2003, the BMW M Award has been an integral component of the close partnership between BMW M GmbH and MotoGP™ rights owner Dorna Sports. There is a double anniversary to celebrate this year: BMW M GmbH is celebrating its 50th birthday and the prize for the fastest MotoGP™ qualifier is being awarded for the 20th time. To mark the occasion, BMW M is providing an exclusive highlight as the Winner’s Car: the first BMW M3 Competition Touring with xDrive.
BMW M GmbH will be focusing its activities at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on its 50th birthday celebrations. BMW M is showcasing numerous models from the past, present and future to mark the occasion. This includes global debuts like the one of the first-ever BMW M3 Touring MotoGP™ Safety Car. Festival visitors will be among the first people able to take a close look at the newest safety car from BMW M, the ‘Official Car of MotoGP™’ since 1999.
50 years of BMW M. In 2022, the commitment as Official Car of MotoGP™ is all about BMW M GmbH’s special anniversary. The first highlight is a first in the BMW M safety car fleet. The BMW M2 CS Racing is the first thoroughbred race car to be used as the lead car in MotoGP™. The BMW M2 CS Racing MotoGP™ Safety Car heads the fleet of powerful BMW M safety cars in the 2022 season.
The fastest qualifier of the 2021 MotoGP™ season is once again Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman, who wrapped up the world championship title with races to spare in October, won this year’s coveted BMW M Award, for the second season in a row. The award is an integral component of BMW M’s activities as ‘Official Car of MotoGP™’ and was presented for the 19th time in 2021.
Presenting the first fully-electric safety car from BMW M: BMW M GmbH, the “Official Car of MotoGP™”, will unveil the new BMW i4 M50 Safety Car for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup at the Motorcycle Grand Prix of Austria on 15th August at the Red Bull Ring (AUT). It will replace the BMW i8 Safety Car, which has previously led the field in the electric motorcycle series, which takes place on the support programme for MotoGP™.
The BMW M Award competition is an integral part of MotoGP™. In 2021, the prize will be presented to the fastest qualifier for the 19th time. The 2021 winner can once again look forward to a real highlight, a new BMW M5 CS (fuel consumption, combined: 11.3 – 11.1 l/100 km [25.0 – 25.5 mpg imp] correspond to NEDC; 11,3 – 10,9 l/100 km correspond to WLTP, CO2 emissions, combined: 258 – 253 g/km correspond to NEDC, 257 – 248 g/km correspond to WLTP)*.
Preparations are underway for the 2021 season in the MotoGP World Championship, which begins on 28th March with the Grand Prix of Qatar in Losail. BMW M has been the ‘Official Car of MotoGP’ since 1999, an involvement that includes the provision of the safety car fleet. This year marks the first time that BMW M GmbH is presenting three new safety cars and a new safety bike.
A premiere for the iconic BMW M Award: In the 2020 season, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo was the fastest qualifier in MotoGP, which saw him added to the list of winners of this special competition for the first time. His reward for his performances is the BMW M Award winner’s car for 2020: the new BMW M2 CS (combined fuel consumption: 10.4 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 238 g/km*).
A first in the long history of MotoGP™: A race winner rewarded with a high-performance BMW M car for the first time - MotoGP rider Miguel Oliveira wins a 2021 model BMW M4 (combined fuel consumption: 10.9 – 10.5 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 249 – 239 g/km*, provisional values) - BMW M presents the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe MotoGP Safety Car at the Red Bull Ring.

CO2 emission information.
Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.
All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies.
