+++ Tournament setup for the ATP 500 debut unveiled in BMW Park +++ Zverev, Fritz, Struff, Shelton, Auger-Aliassime, Shapovalov, and Berrettini to play at BMW Open by Bitpanda +++ Rising star Engel receives first Wildcard +++
Munich. Just over three weeks before the first serve
at the BMW Open by Bitpanda (April 12-20, 2025, MTCC Iphitos), key
details for its debut as an ATP-500 event were presented today at a
press conference in BMW Park. BMW, the title partner for the 38th
time, along with tournament partners, showcased a preview of the
Munich tennis highlight on the spectacular video glass floor.
The presentation included a top-class player field, the new facility setup with a temporary centre court (capacity of 6,500 seats), new public catering, entertainment, and VIP areas, a new tournament logo, and a new presenting partner.
“We are very proud of the BMW Open, our longest-standing and most traditional sports engagement at BMW Group since 1987,” said Christian Ach, Head of BMW Germany, at the press conference. “This demonstrates BMW's commitment to continuously develop our sports engagements together with our partners. With the debut of the BMW Open by Bitpanda as an ATP-500 tournament, we have reached another important milestone. We look forward to offering the visitors a truly great tournament experience in every respect.”
This experience is greatly enhanced by the athletes themselves. After early confirmations from Alexander Zverev (GER), currently ranked second in the world, and Taylor Fritz (USA, ranked 4th), more top players have now been confirmed. Making his debut in Munich will be American rising star Ben Shelton. The 22-year-old is currently ranked 12th in the ATP world rankings and recently made headlines as a semi-finalist at the Australian Open.
Returning to the BMW Open by Bitpanda is Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (ranked 18th). The 24-year-old has already claimed two tournament victories this year and is currently ranked 4th in the Race to Turin. Another top 20 player on the list is Ugo Humbert (FRA, ranked 19th), who has won seven ATP titles in his career. Polish player Hubert Hurkacz (ranked 22the), who already has two Masters-1000 titles to his name, will also be making his BMW Open debut.
Munich can also look forward to another notable Canadian. Denis Shapovalov (ranked 28th) will play for the first time at Aumeister, bringing his powerful game to the forefront. He has already impressed this year with a tournament win at the ATP 500 in Dallas. Additionally, Francisco Cerundolo from Argentina (ranked 24th) and Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic (ranked27th), two more top 30 players have confirmed their participation.
Tennis fans will also reunite with Italian Matteo Berrettini (ranked 29th), who, after a long injury break last year, won three titles and is now back in the top 30, with an upward trend.
Defending champion Jan-Lennard Struff (GER, ranked 46th) returns to MTTC Iphitos, the site of his greatest success. Struff won his first ATP title in Munich in 2024 and will strive to leave the court in the BMW winner's car again in the 500-era.
The first wildcard of the BMW Open by Bitpanda goes to young talent Justin Engel from Nuremberg. The 17-year-old made international headlines last year; he became the fourth youngest player in history to win an ATP match, after Michael Chang (USA), Rafael Nadal (ESP), and Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) – truly illustrious company. Another star of tomorrow is 19-year-old American Learner Tien, who sensationally fought his way from the qualifiers to the fourth round of the Australian Open and will also play at the BMW Open by Bitpanda, along with Gael Monfils (FRA), Daniel Altmaier (GER), Alexander Bublik (RUS), and two-time Munich finalist Botic van de Zandschulp (NED).
“We are particularly pleased that at the BMW Open by Bitpanda 2025, we will not only see world-class players with big names and exciting top talents but also a variety of athletes who are in outstanding form this season. Three from the top 6 in the 'Race to Turin' will be playing in Munich,” said tournament director Patrik Kühnen.
Tickets for the tournament are almost sold out for all days. Only a few last tickets are available for the qualifying weekend. For more information, please visit www.bmwopen.de. Additionally, tennis fans have the opportunity to actively experience tennis at the BMW Welt during the week before and throughout the tournament, with chances to win tickets to the BMW Open by Bitpanda.
There is another debut – for Europe's leading crypto broker, Bitpanda, as the new presenting partner of the BMW Open by Bitpanda. Founded in Vienna in 2014, Bitpanda offers one of the most extensive investment portfolios with a selection of over 2,800 digital assets.
TV partners and times will be announced over the next month. However, it is already confirmed that all matches from Center Court can be followed live on the streaming app Joyn (www.joyn.de).
