Munich. Next weekend (7th to 9th October), the DTM season 2022 will draw to a close with the traditional finale at the Hockenheimring (GER). BMW M works driver Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) and the BMW M Motorsport Team Schubert Motorsport are battling for the title in the DTM drivers’ and team championships. They are heading to the finale at the top of the standings in both competitions. The CO2-reducing RoL E20 fuel from BMW M Motorsport Partner Shell will be used for the first time in the BMW M2 Cup. In the DTM Classic Cup, BMW M works driver Bruno Spengler (CAN) will again be competing in a historic BMW race car for the Schnitzer Classic team. From 17:00 on Friday, Head of BMW M Motorsport Andreas Roos and the three BMW M works drivers Philipp Eng (AUT), Sheldon van der Linde and Marco Wittmann (GER) will be available to answer questions from the media.

DTM: thrilling battle for the title goes all the way to the finale.

There are two races remaining in the DTM season 2022 which will decide who prevails in the battle for the title. Ahead of the finale, BMW M driver Sheldon van der Linde is in pole position in the drivers’ standings. He has chalked up 130 points and leads the championship by eleven points. His Schubert Motorsport team also tops the team standings with a total of 185 points and a lead of 43.

“I am really looking forward to going into the final races of the DTM season with a chance to fight for the championship,” van der Linde said. “We have been working so hard towards this goal from the start of the year. We always had high ambitions and now to finally have it come down to last race of the year is super exciting, not only for us as a team, but also for the fans with five guys having the chance to win the championship. I am looking forward to kind of executing everything on the race weekend. I think it is going to be very important to put every little thing out of our BMW M4 GT3 that performed amazingly in its first season. I am sure come Sunday at Hockenheimring, we will have given everything we have. That’s the goal and I am really excited to fight for my first DTM championship next weekend.”

“First of all, we have to say that our expectations for the season have already been far exceeded,” explained Torsten Schubert, Team Principal Schubert Motorsport. “We wanted to challenge for individual victories and are now fighting for the two important titles in the drivers' and teams' classifications until the very end. And we will fight for it right up to the last race on Sunday – because no one can become champion on Saturday except us. This is an excellent effort by the entire team and I am very proud of it.”

The final two races will start at 13:30 CEST on Saturday and Sunday.

BMW M Motorsport Media Round Table on Friday.

As the first DTM season with the new BMW M4 GT3 draws to a close, representatives of BMW M Motorsport will be available to answer journalists’ questions during a media forum. The Media Round Table with Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, will take place on Friday 7th October at 17:00 in the BMW M2 Cup hospitality in the paddock. The three BMW M works drivers currently racing in the DTM – Philipp Eng, Sheldon van der Linde and Marco Wittmann – will join the forum at 17:30 to look back at the 2022 DTM season and ahead to 2023.

BMW M2 Cup: debut for CO2-reducing fuel from Shell.

On the occasion of the season finale in Hockenheim, BMW M Motorsport Technology Partner Shell will be using a new, CO2-reducing fuel for the first time in the BMW M2 Cup, Shell RoL E20 fuel. Around 90 percent of the components of this fuel are sustainable. Its use in the BMW M2 Cup for the thrilling title fight between Fabian Kreim (GER) and Maxime Oosten (NED) is another example of the forward-looking collaboration between BMW M Motorsport and Shell.

“Shell is aiming to become a net zero-emission company by 2050. In order to achieve that, we want to move gradually away from oil-based products, via gas and bridging technologies, to green power, hydrogen and sustainable fuels,” said Marc Bittner, General Manager Global Key Accounts Europe at Shell. “BMW and Shell are linked by intensive collaboration in the sustainable mobility sector, including sustainable fuels that are based on residual or waste materials. That is why we are particularly pleased to be able to support BMW in the BMW M2 Cup with fuel consisting of around 90 percent sustainable components. We have a long history of involvement in motor racing, in many different ways. The extreme conditions on the tracks allow us to gain valuable insights for research and development of alternative fuels for the road.”

Sustainability is not just an issue for fuel for the BMW M2 CS Racing cars, but also in terms of logistics. The delivery of the E20 fuel to the Hockenheimring will also be CO2-neutral.

DTM Classic Cup: Bruno Spengler back in the BMW 320i STW.

The DTM Classic Cup is undoubtedly one of the highlights for fans in the DTM supporting programme, featuring historic race cars bringing the ‘old days’ of the DTM back to life. Having already competed at the Norisring (GER), BMW M works driver Bruno Spengler will be making another guest appearance at Hockenheim. He will again be racing with a BMW 320i STW, entered by BMW Group Classic and the Schnitzer Classic team, that was the type of car in which Johnny Cecotto (VEN) won the title in 1998. At the Norisring, Spengler claimed pole position and a spot on the podium – now he is looking forward to another appearance in the DTM Classic Cup.

“I am delighted to be back racing in the DTM Classic Cup,” said Spengler. It is wonderful to drive BMW race cars like this from past years. Things went really well at the Norisring and now we will see how it goes at Hockenheim. It is brilliant to be involved again, especially in the season finale. That’s always something special. The combination of historic BMW race cars and modern cars is always really cool. The guys from BMW Group Classic and Schnitzer Classic are just great, and that’s why I’m so looking forward to the weekend.”

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information are available at www.bmw.de/wltp and at www.dat.de/co2/.
