Munich (DE), 9th August 2014. It was with great sadness that BMW Motorsport received news of the death of Dieter Lamm. Dieter passed away surrounded by his family on Friday at the age of 59, having succumbed to a serious illness.
Together with his twin brother Charly Lamm and half-brother Herbert Schnitzer, Dieter Lamm was the heart and soul of Schnitzer Motorsport. For over 30 years the three brothers celebrated countless motorsport triumphs with BMW Team Schnitzer. During this time they became integral members of the BMW family.
Up until recently, Dieter Lamm had, alongside Team Principal Charly Lamm, been responsible for technical processes and logistics within the DTM programme at BMW Team Schnitzer. He played an instrumental role in the major success enjoyed by the team, which included winning the Drivers’ and Team Championships in the 2012 season.
“The death of Dieter Lamm is a huge loss for motorsport,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “For decades, he and his brothers have successfully flown the flag for BMW at racetracks all over the world. We at BMW Motorsport are very grateful that we were able to forge this path together. Dieter Lamm will be greatly missed by us all, as a colleague and as a friend. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
The eight BMW M4 DTM racing cars will take to the track sporting black ribbons at the coming DTM race at the Nürburgring (DE), in memory of Dieter Lamm.
