More dynamic than ever, featuring a wealth of digital innovations and, for the first time, all-electric drive alongside the tested BMW 520d – this is how the new BMW 5 Series stepped up to the plate at the time of its South African introduction in late 2023.
The eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series, however, continues to stand for advanced technology combined with sporty, elegant design and hallmark driving pleasure. Openness to different technologies is reflected in a flexible drive architecture that allows all-electric drive systems as well as highly efficient petrol and diesel engines including 48-volt mild hybrid technology to be used in the BMW 5 Series Sedan.
Now, the BMW 5 Series range in South Africa, initially offered in 520d, i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive variants, has been bolstered with a petrol-powered addition – the BMW 530i.
The new generation of the in-line four-cylinder engine featured in the new BMW 530i uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine equipped with the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, generating a maximum power output of 190 kW and maximum torque of 400 Nm. The zero-to-100 km/h time is 6.2 seconds.
New eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard. Worldwide, all petrol and diesel combustion engines available for the BMW 5 Series are equipped with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The four-cylinder petrol engine in the 530i is combined with a starter generator on the belt drive to produce a particularly spontaneous response to every accelerator movement, both when starting off and during intermediate sprints, and make driving more comfortable when using the Auto Start / Stop function.
Like the BMW 520d, the new BMW 530i’s standard specification also includes Comfort Access with Digital Key, electric seat adjustment, seat heating for the front seats, Driving Assist and Adaptive LED headlights. Similarly, it is sold as standard with BMW’s M Sport Package.
The optional M Sport Pro package, among other details, adds BMW Iconic Glow, BMW Individual lights Shadowline, dark blue metallic M Sport brakes and M Seatbelts.
The price for the BMW 530i, including VAT and CO2 tax is, R1,321,081.40
