Rosslyn, South Africa – BMW Group Plant Rosslyn is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Plant Rosslyn Early Learning Centre (ELC).
Earlier in 2019, the ELC welcomed its 2000th pupil into the school, illustrating the wide impact the school has had on the BMW community in Rosslyn.
The anniversary underlines BMW Group SA’s continued commitment to education and to the community in Soshanguve, where so many Plant Rosslyn associates live.
To celebrate the occasion, BMW South Africa has created a short film, which will be distributed on social media, and which is available on the BMW Group South Africa Press Club.
Education at the heart of BMW Group SA’s commitment to South Africa
Education, training and skills development are at the heart of BMW Group’s activities in South Africa. In 2018 year the company opened a R73m Training Academy at Plant Rosslyn, and at Midrand head office in April 2019, a brand-new R109m Dealer Training Centre was opened to support our dealer network partners.
The company’s commitment to schools continues with the upgrade of facilities at Ntsha-Peu Primary School in Soshanguve, one of 144 schools the company has supported over the years.
Additionally, over the course of 2019, BMW Group South Africa is donating 20 BMW X3s to schools, universities and science centres around the country. The first car was handed over to Soshanguve Automotive School of Specialisation in May 2019.
A long-term commitment to Education
Tim Abbott, CEO: BMW Group South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, said the anniversary of the ELC “just goes to show how serious we are about our long-term commitment to South Africa and to educational causes in South Africa”.
Mr Abbott added that the company “will continue to support educational institutions, and the success of the ELC shows the positive impact responsible corporate citizenship can have on the lives of our Rosslyn associates, their families and their communities”.
Ms. Rachael Naidoo, Principal of the ELC, says the school has had an enormously positive impact over the years.
“The ELC has helped many young children go onto have successful school careers and lives. This year we welcomed our 2000th child,” she said.
The ELC is available to children of BMW Associates who work at Plant Rosslyn, and focusses on ensuring that the children are prepared for Grade One.
