Midrand. Travellers and MINI enthusiasts leaving Cape Town International Airport are being treated to the first ever live Instagram billboard in South Africa. The billboard, which is situated on the road exiting Cape Town International Airport and features a life size fibreglass MINI 3-door hatch and below it a live feed from MINI South Africa’s Instagram page.
“MINI is about innovation and we are always looking for fresh ways to engage with our customers. Instagram is currently the fastest growing social media platform and what makes this particular billboard unique is that a concept like this has never been executed before,” says Kabelo Rabotho, General Manager of MINI South Africa.
To enable the viewing of the comments placed by users on Instagram, through both the app and the website, a Javascript web-based application pulls the live feed through the Instagram Application Programming Interface (API) directly to the screen.
The billboard, says Rabotho, is a great visual tool and allows for immediate engagement with Instagramers at Cape Town International Airport.
MINI’s first Instagram billboard will be live until the end of January 2015.
