Johannesburg. Lance Isaacs, one of South Africa’s top racing motorcyclists with a distinguished record at both national and international level, has been appointed as a brand ambassador for BMW Motorrad South Africa.
At 36 years of age the Pietermaritzburg-born and Cape Town based Isaacs could be considered a veteran of circuit racing on two wheels and he remains a top contender for championship honours after runner-up finishes in one national Superbike championship (in 2009) and three national Supersport championships (2011 to 2013).
He is currently competing on a Black Swan Energy-backed BMW S 1000 RR in the Monster Energy SuperGP Championship, the new-for-2014 South African Superbike championship which forms part of the inaugural all-motorcycle Monster Energy SuperGP Champions Trophy.
After the first four rounds of the eight round championship, which sees the final round at Phakisa Freeway in October form part of the South African round of the FIM Superbike World Championship, he is third in the point standings after his and BMW’s first win of the season in race two of the Buffalo City SuperGP round in East London on June 15.
“It’s an absolute honour to be named brand ambassador for BMW Motorrad in South Africa,” said the modest and very popular rider. “Competing in our first year together in the all-new SuperGP Champions Trophy for Superbikes has been a steep learning curve for both me and my sponsors, Black Swan Energy. We are the only BMW in the field and to have already claimed our first race win halfway through the season against a main rival who is dominating in Superbike racing around the world is a major achievement for the team and not something we expected so soon.”
Isaacs is also currently lying second in the recently-announced BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, a unique global competition for privateer BMW Motorrad riders who contest 15 different international and national championships and events around the world. According to the results they achieve in their races, they collect points towards the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy classification. By the end of the year, the best privateer BMW Motorrad rider worldwide is crowned.
“Our successes so far this season are just reward for a team that has put in a great deal of hard work. We have made our mark and can only go forward from here. Now we will be aiming to win both the South African national championship and the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy,” Isaacs concluded.
