Munich. At a press conference an the occasion of the 2010 Leipzig Motor Show (AMI) on Friday, 9 April 2010 at 12:20, BMW, the world’s leading manufacturer of premium cars, once again emphasized the significance and strong future outlook of Leipzig as a centre of production. The BMW Plant in Saxony where a total of xxx cars has come off the production line since the Plant started production in 2005, will be building an all-electric production car developed by the BMW Group in the foreseeable future. At the same time
the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series Touring highlights the significance of this Motor Show.

Frank-Peter Arndt, Member of the BMW Board of Management for Production, made his point quite clear at the press conference in Hall 3:
“BMW Plant Leipzig stands out within the BMW Group’s global production network through a high level of efficiency, flexibility, and quality. Precisely this is why BMW will be focusing on Leipzig in future, building the Megacity Vehicle with electric drive as part of project i here at this Plant. The plan is to integrate production in Leipzig with two further plants in Bavaria, important components coming from Wackersdorf and Landshut and the car of the future eventually coming off the production line here in Leipzig.”

Karsten Engel, Director of BMW Sales Germany, adds: “Leipzig is of great significance to BMW in several respects. First, the AMI Show is the most important German motor show of the year, and Germany, in turn, is the BMW Group’s most important market. This is why we have chosen Leipzig for the world debut of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. Second, BMW Plant Leipzig builds both the BMW 1 Series and the new, highly successful BMW X1.”

BMW Plant Leipzig built in the north-east of the city at an investment of more than Euro 1 billion, is laid out as a production plant with an integrated delivery centre for external suppliers. Some 5,000 employees work on the entire premises on the production of premium cars sold under the BMW brand. This makes BMW the largest employer in Leipzig, flexible working time concepts and shifts currently enabling BMW Plant Leipzig to build up to 730 cars a day, depending on current demand and market requirements.

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies.
