Munich. Just a few weeks after the launch of the new BMW 1 Series, another two model variants will be made available from November 2024. At the same time, the line-up of drive systems for the BMW i5 Touring and BMW 5 Series Touring will be expanded with the addition of one more fully electric variant, one plug-in-hybrid and one four-cylinder petrol model. Plus, new exterior paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and interior trim variants will provide BMW 1 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW X2 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer customers with additional scope for individualisation from autumn 2024.

An almost 50 per cent increase in charging power will optimise the potential for locally emission-free driving in the plug-in-hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series and BMW X5, and the new BMW M5. Innovative entertainment in the form of video streaming and in-car gaming will be available for further BMW models from autumn 2024. New functions will again be offered via Remote Software Upgrades. Highlights include the introduction of a digital payment facility for fuel and optimised search and selection of charging stations for vehicles with BMW Operating System 9. In addition, it will be possible to assign graduated rights when releasing digital car keys.

BMW 1 Series: new entry-level model, second variant with BMW xDrive.
From November 2024, the new BMW 116 (fuel consumption, combined: 6.3 – 5.9 litres/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 143 – 135 g/km in the WLTP cycle) will provide an even more economical entry point to driving pleasure in the premium segment of the compact class. This new variant adds a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine to the new BMW 1 Series range. Its maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp and peak torque of 230 Nm are channelled to the front wheels via a seven-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard. The new BMW 116 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds.

The BMW 1 Series line-up also welcomes a new all-wheel-drive option. The new BMW 123 xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 6.3 – 5.9 litres/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 144 – 134 g/km in the WLTP cycle) is powered by an electrified four-cylinder drive unit featuring 48V mild hybrid technology. Its system output of 160 kW/218 hp is the combined work of a petrol engine with up to 150 kW/204 hp and an integrated electric motor with up to 14 kW/19 hp. The instantaneous response of the motor, which is particularly noticeable when pulling away and adding mid-range bursts of speed, helps the new BMW 123 xDrive sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

BMW M135 xDrive: bespoke performance with the M Technology Package.
An M Technology Package will be available exclusively for the new BMW M135 xDrive from November 2024. It will bring additional bracing elements and lightweight construction measures, plus specific chassis components that give the range-topping 1 Series model bespoke performance characteristics. Particularly strong piston rods for the front shock absorbers, weight-saving aluminium anti-roll bars with extra rigidity and additional underfloor bracing elements increase steering precision and give the car noticeably more engaging responses. There is also an application for the steering and control systems. The fitment of M Compound brakes and M forged light-alloy wheels helps to reduce weight. The 19-inch wheels are fitted with sport tyres.

The enhanced transverse dynamics brought about by the M Technology Package and the car’s improved deceleration capability enable significantly improved lap times on the track and also make their presence keenly felt in everyday driving. The M Technology Package for the new BMW M135 xDrive also includes M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim with extended elements, plus M Sport seats with integral head restraints and an illuminated M logo in the upper section of the backrests.

In addition, from November 2024 all members of the new BMW 1 Series family will offer customers extra scope for adapting the exterior to their personal tastes. The range of exterior paint shades now includes Fire Red metallic, BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue metallic and M Brooklyn Grey metallic. And 19-inch forged light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design bring extra, neatly judged sharpness to the sporting appearance of the new 1 Series. On the M Performance model and cars specified with the M Sport package, these wheels are also offered with sport tyres. And track tyres are available for the most sporting 1 Series model as part of the M Technology Package. All other model variants now come with an interior trim element in Dark Chrome as standard.

BMW i5 Touring and BMW 5 Series Touring: three additional drive system variants.

The line-up of drive systems for the new BMW 5 Series Touring will also be expanded in November 2024. The new BMW 520i Touring (fuel consumption, combined: 6.7 – 6.1 litres/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 151 – 137 g/km in the WLTP cycle) teams the latest version of the four-cylinder petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid technology to generate maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and peak torque of 310 Nm. These figures can be raised to a maximum 153 kW/208 hp and 330 Nm courtesy of the mild hybrid system’s crankshaft-driven starter generator. The new BMW 520i Touring powers from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.

In the new BMW 550e xDrive Touring (petrol and electric power consumption – weighted, combined: 24.4 – 22.1 kWh/100 km and 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 24 – 19 g/km in the WLTP cycle; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 8.5 – 7.8 l/100 km in the WLTP cycle; electric range: 82 – 90 km), a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology from the BMW Group’s new generation of modular engines joins forces with the latest version of BMW eDrive technology for plug-in-hybrid systems. The 3.0-litre engine produces nominal output of 230 kW/313 hp at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and nominal torque of 450 Nm at 1,750 – 4,700 rpm. The electric motor developed for the hybrid drive system is integrated – together with its power electronics – directly into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the peak system output of 360 kW/489 hp. Its nominal torque of up to 280 Nm is boosted to an effective value of as much as 450 Nm at the transmission input for the motor with the help of a pregearing stage patented by BMW. With the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system also on board, the new BMW 550e xDrive Touring powers from rest to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

Adding a third fully electric model variant to the line-up, the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring (electric power consumption, combined: 20.3 – 17.9 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km in the WLTP cycle; range: 453 – 520 km) combines one highly integrated electric drive unit at the front axle and one at the rear axle to create electric all-wheel drive and channel system output of up to 290 kW/394 hp and peak torque of 590 Nm to the road. The new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds on the way to a top speed of 215 km/h. Its high-voltage battery produces 81.2 kWh of usable energy. The Combined Charging Unit of the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring enables AC charging at a rate of up to 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW as an option. This enables DC charging at fast-charging stations at up to 205 kW.

From November 2024, both the BMW 5 Series Touring and BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available in the exterior colour shade BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic and further BMW Individual paint finishes. In cars with the M Sport package and additional Comfort Package, M multifunction seats for the driver and front passenger – trimmed e.g. in Merino leather Black – will increase comfort in everyday driving and over longer-distance journeys. A new addition to the options list for the BMW 5 Series Touring and examples of the BMW 5 Series Sedan specified with the panoramic glass sunroof is the M Alcantara Anthracite headlining, which accentuates the sporty, premium ambience of the interior.

Increased charging power for selected plug-in-hybrid models.

All plug-in-hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series and the BMW X5 xDrive50e (petrol and electric power consumption – weighted, combined: 30.7 – 26.3 kWh/100 km and 1.2 – 0.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 28 – 19 g/km in the WLTP cycle; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 10.5 – 9.0 l/100 km in the WLTP cycle) and new BMW M5 Sedan (petrol and electric power consumption – weighted, combined: 26.8 – 25.0 kWh/100 km and 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 43.0 – 36.0 g/km in the WLTP cycle; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 10.7 – 10.2 l/100 km in the WLTP cycle) now benefit from higher AC charging rates. The increase from 7.4 kW previously to 11 kW now enables users to replenish the high-voltage battery of their cars in a significantly shorter time.

It will now be possible to charge the battery in the BMW X5 xDrive50e from 0 to 100 per cent within three hours, while the 0 to 100 per cent charging times for the BMW M5 and plug-in-hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series will be reduced by an hour to 2 hours 15 minutes. This allows the cars’ potential for locally emission-free everyday driving to be utilised even more effectively and flexibly.
