Whitby, Ontario ... The term avantgarde is most commonly associated with
progressive and innovative creations, which makes the name ideally suited to
the new series of colours and surface finishes for BMW's R1200C Avantgarde. Now
arriving in either Bronze Metallic or Ice Blue Metallic, these unusual colours
serve to highlight the motorcycles' superior technical capabilities and styling.
At the top of its technical class, the R 1200C is the only motorcycle to come
standard with a catalytic converter in every country and optional ABS. New for
the 2000 model year, the Cruiser comes equipped with automatic cancellation for
the direction indicators as well. Increased engine size, resulting from
enlarging the bore from 99 to 101mm and extending the stroke, have created the
largest displacement BMW motorcycle ever built.
In terms of design, the "Boxer" flat twin engine style and the use of
"Graphitan" finishes, give this bike a muscular, and yet somehow understated
demeanour. The motorcycle's styling moves away from high-gloss chrome to a
sleek look that is unique among Cruiser models. With no visible plastic
components the bike is solid and attains the perfect balance between high-gloss
sleek and sound functionality.
The Bronze Metallic paint finish gives the bike an aura of evolution, classic
yet progressive. While the Ice Blue Metallic finish, is cooling and hightens
the sense that this is a machine of engineering excellence. The machine is the
key in the design, and these two new colours serve to increase the visual
appeal of a motorcycle that has already proven to be technically superior.
Winning the 1999 "Cruiser of the Year" award by readers from 7 European
countries and the "Best Product Design of the ear 1999" earlier in the year,
BMW is assured that the Cruiser will remain a favourite of riders through the
new millennium.
The new BMW Cruiser Avantgarde is a technical wonder and a stylistic dream.
