Whitby. BMW Motorrad Canada is pleased to announce that three exciting new
K-Series models, the K1300S, K1300R and K1300GT, along with the arrival of the
long-awaited HP2 Sport, F800GS, and the newly launched G450X Enduro, will
complement the introduction of BMW Motorrad 2009 stable of models.
With 2008 on track to be the most successful year in the history of BMW
Motorrad Canada, the 2009 BMW Motorrad model lineup promises an exciting launch
into the next riding season with a range of new models that emphasize BMW
Motorrad's continued commitment to performance, quality and value.
A significantly updated and improved 2009 K-Series trio celebrated their
worldwide debut at the 2008 INTERMOT motorcycle show and will be on sale in
Canada in the spring of 2009.
K1300S, K1300R and K1300GT
Three quarters of the K-Series model range receive a range of enhancements for
2009 (the K1200LT Tourer continues with minimal changes), the heart of which is
an increase in engine capacity to 1,293 cc. The increased displacement spawns
the most powerful and fastest K-Series motorcycles in BMW's history:
* The new K1300S sportbike takes its place as the most powerful and fastest BMW
ever produced with a benchmark output of 175 hp @ 9,250 rpm and torque of 103
ft-lb, up 12 hp and 7.4 ft-lb over the K1200S.
* The new K1300R becomes the most powerful "naked bike" in BMW history, echoing
similar specifications with an output of 173 hp @ 9,250 rpm, just a shade under
the "S", with identical torque of 103 ft-lb., up 10 hp and 10 ft-lb over its
K1200R predecessor.
* The new K1300GT Touring bike gets a boost to160 hp @ 9,000 rpm and 99 ft-lb.,
up 8 hp and 4 ft-lb. over the K1200GT, continuing as the most powerful BMW
touring bike in the fleet.
All three new models also share a myriad of additional upgrades, highlighted
by:
* Revised and updated modular fairings with enhanced wind protection and
aerodynamics
* An optimized gearbox with shorter shifter travel and more precise shifting
characteristics
* Upgraded Duolever front suspension with the lower longitudinal arm
constructed of forged aluminum alloy (previously forged steel).
* Optimised exhaust system with a new rear muffler and electronically
controlled flap management and fully controlled three-way catalytic converter.
* A new generation of switches and manual controls with optimized ergonomics,
using MID (molded interconnect devices) technology
* New digital instrument cluster
* LED taillight with clear lens (K1300S only)
New factory options for the three new K-Series bikes include:
* Second-generation Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) adding spring rate
adjustment on the rear suspension (to the previous damper rate adjustment) -
now with a total of nine adjustment variables.
* HP Gearshift Assistant ("quick shifter") on S and R models.
* Comfort rear seat - wider with additional padding and contouring for rear
passengers (R only).
New Aftersales accessories for the three new K-Series include:
* HP instrument cluster (à la HP2 Sport)
* HP rider and passenger footpegs (also à la HP2 Sport )
The new K-Series trio debuts with MSRPs only modestly higher than their
predecessors:
K1300S - $16,650
K1300R - $16,350
K1300GT- $ 21,600
F800GS Enduro
The long-awaited stablemate to the highly-acclaimed 2008 F650GS Enduro twin,
the F800GS Enduro started arriving at Canadian Motorrad retailers this fall as
a 2009 model year, visually characterized by its aggressive off-road style
fairings, prominent oversize "GS" badging and unique and startling colour
palette including Sunset Yellow/Black or Dark Magnesium Metallic Matt.
The new 2009 F800GS is powered by a 798 cc liquid-cooled, four-valve twin
producing a robust 85 horsepower @ 7500 rpm and 61.2 ft-lb of torque at 5750
rpm. Featuring manifold injection with electronic engine management, BMS-KP,
lambda probe and regulated three-way catalytic converter plus secondary air
system, the F800GS accelerates from 0-100 km/h in a mere 4.0 seconds.
Further distinguishing itself from its F650GS cousin, the front suspension on
the F800GS features "upside-down" telescopic forks with 230mm of travel, 45 mm
tube diameter and plastic stone protectors. Powerful stopping power is provided
by two double-piston Brembo fully floating calipers and 300mm brake discs up
front, and a single-piston Brembo caliper with 265mm disc brake at the rear.
The combination produces a new level of agility and performance suitably
competent in both on and off-road environments, with the F800GS placing greater
emphasis on off-road capability.
The F800GS Enduro debuts with an MSRP of $12,250.
HP2 Sport
Based on the R 1200 S Sports Boxer, with a racing pedigree that has been honed
on circuits around the world, the new HP2 Sport is the most powerful, lightest
and advanced Boxer-twin yet, and the first production Double Overhead Camshaft
(DOHC) Boxer in BMW history.
Achieving130hp at 8750rpm and 85 ft-lb of torque at 6000rpm, the engine is
truly formidable. With a dry weight of just 178kg, the bike's power to weight
ratio guarantees impressive performance.
The HP2 Sport has been designed with racing components originally developed for
its extensive racing program:
* The frame, derived from the R1200S, has been adapted and strengthened to
racing standards.
* The six-speed close-ratio gearbox is equipped with a quickshifter, enabling
split-second clutchless gear changes without easing off the throttle - the
first production motorcycle to be so equipped.
* A lightweight carbon fibre fairing, including a self-supporting seat unit.
* MotoGP-style dashboard
* Forged aluminum wheels
* Brembo brakes with radially mounted calipers
* Specially developed Öhlins front and rear suspension units.
* Stainless-steel two-into-one exhaust system mounted under the sump to
optimize lean angles
* Fully adjustable footrests, brake and gear levers
In essence, the HP2 Sport is "track-ready" but fully compatible with street
riding. Although racing potential is clearly at the forefront of the design of
the HP2 Sport, this does not mean forgoing safety design features such as ABS.
Available as an option, this sophisticated anti-lock system has been designed
specifically for the model, and has been configured to be switched off for
track use.
Its racing pedigree has already been established in Canada with the BMW
Motorrad Racing Team, featuring factory riders Michael Ferreira and Paul Glenn,
having debuted the HP2 Sport race bike at the Canadian Thunder Series of the
2008 Parts Canada Superbike Championship.
An uncompromising riding machine for those with supersports intentions, the
2009 HP2 Sport will be an irresistible choices for the hard-core performance
rider and debuts with an MSRP of $26,640.
G450X Sports Enduro
Developed on the 2007 European enduro racing circuit, the all-new
competition-oriented BMW G450X Sports Enduro made a convincing debut to the
market in 2008 with BMW Motorrad factory team rider Simo Kirssi clinching both
the 2008 German and European Cross Country championships in October aboard BMW'
s newest enduro model.
The G450X Sports Enduro gives BMW Motorrad presence in a brand new displacement
category in the increasingly popular enduro segment. A clean-sheet design bred
with competition in mind, the heart of the G450X is a BMW-designed
single-cylinder DOHC engine incorporating state-of-the-art materials,
fuel-injection, liquid cooling, crankshaft-mounted clutch, balance shaft and
electric start.
With 50 horsepower and a wet weight close to 120kg/265lb., the power-to-weight
ratio of the G450X will make for outstanding off-road performance. Equipped
with a 3-way catalytic converter, a competition exhaust will also be available.
The new G450X Sports Enduro is poised to delight "hard core" enduro enthusiasts
worldwide and debuts with an MSRP of $9,400.
S1000RR Supersports
The spectacular BMW S 1000 R Supersports bike, still under development, will
challenge the 2009 World Superbike Championship with factory riders Ruben Xaus
and two-times world champion Australian Troy Corser.
Technical details and pricing for the S1000 R will be available closer to the
market launch in late 2009.
The balance of the 2009 BMW Motorrad lineup continues with an appealing range
of encore performers with the notable exceptions of the G650X Challenge, G650X
Moto, HP2 Enduro, HP2 Megamoto and R1200S models, which are now discontinued.
The 2009 F800GS, HP2 Sport and G450X models are in BMW Motorrad showrooms now,
while the new K1300-Series lineup will be on sale in spring of 2009.
