Being named winners in this year's iF Product Design Award, as much as
four BMW products have yielded once again outstanding success. The
Industrie Forum Design Hanover awarded the highest prize to the
innovative twowheeler BMW C1 and to the exceptional skateboard
StreetCarver: both vehicles succeeded in being named to the top ten
list encompassing the ten products with the best design in all
categories. Moreover, the two open-top vehicles BMW Z8 and the 3 Series
Convertible won the worldwide renowned iF Design Award. The C1 and the
StreetCarver were the only vehicles in the contest to enter the top ten
list in all categories. Together with the two prize-winning automobiles
these vehicles underline the high level of innovation and the
ever-increasing standards in BMW design. This does not only apply to
the classic field of vehicle construction but also to the development
of all-new twowheelers and exceptional sports equipment, a market niche
which is filled in a most innovative way. 700 competitors from 30
countries submitted as much as 1320 products in Hanover. The jury,
which consisted of top designers and design experts from several
different countries, selected 363 products whose design they thought
was more than just great looks. Aside from aesthetic criteria an array
of other aspects like the level of innovation, functionality,
durability and recycling capability were decisive factors. For many
decades the Industrie Forum Design Hanover has been one of the
internationally renowned institutions in the segment of industrial
design. The iF Award, which is given by the industrial forum, is one of
the most desirable design prizes worldwide and is considered to be the
highest award in Europe besides the "Red Dot", which is
awarded by the Design Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia. The
award-winning BMW products: The BMW C1 - "Top Ten" iF Design
Award The BMW C1 is an all-new form of urbane mobility: it is as
space-saving as a motorcycle and at the same time nearly as secure and
comfortable as an automobile. The aluminium spaceframe passenger
compartment, the cleverly thought-out safety belt system and myriad
other features protect the driver. In many countries the driver is not
obliged to wear a helmet due to the high safety standard. The BMW
Street Carver - "Top Ten" iF Design Award BMW constantly
seeks out new niches and transfers industry-leading technology from
automobile construction to other products: this competence is
impressively reflected by the new Street Carver, a fun sports equipment
which is designed for the generation of skaters, and makes carving on
asphalt pistes possible. Chassis components from the BMW 5 Series,
innovative materials and a cleverly devised steering concept make the
Street Carver a new and trendy sports equipment. The BMW Z8 - iF
Design Award The two-seater sports car combines classic style with
state-of-the-art technology and a most sophisticated performance. The
handmade automobile is also a tribute to the legendary BMW 507 - and
has meanwhile become an automotive icon itself. The BMW 3Series
Convertible - iF Design Award It is not only the soft top that gives the
3 Series Convertible a very personal touch. The striking waistline and
the muscular rear end arouse emotions inherent to driving open-top
cars. Seats with an integrated belt system and a variable storage
compartment are evidence of the high degree of functionality. A
Rollover Protection System, which comes out automatically in case of
emergency, made it possible for the designers to do without disturbing
roll bars.
