The all-new BMW M2 – the ultimate sports coupé – launches in Singapore.

Singapore. BMW Asia today announced the launch of the all-new BMW M2 in Singapore, a sports coupé that embodies an unadulterated racing passion that owners can enjoy day in and day out.

While the BMW M2 is available today with an 8-speed automatic transmission, there will also be an exclusive limited run with a 6-speed manual transmission in the coming months! No matter which version you go for, the BMW M2 offers compact dimensions, rear-wheel drive, and a wealth of M-specific details that is sure to delight all drivers.”

The second-generation BMW M2 excites and delights with the skillset of a classical high-performance car with fresh intensity and cutting-edge technology. Thanks to its powertrain technology, chassis configuration, as well as supreme aerodynamic balance, the new BMW M2 continues the brand’s tradition of ultra-sporty models with compact dimensions that began in 1973 with the arrival of the BMW 2002 turbo.

Compact dimensions, extremely powerful proportions.

The athletic appearance of the new BMW M2 stems from its compact dimensions, extremely powerful proportions, and hallmark M design features. Measuring 4,580 mm from nose to tail, including a width of 1,887 mm and a height of 1,403 mm, the new BMW M2 clocks in at 214 mm less in exterior length than the BMW M4 Coupé. Its wheelbase of 2,747 mm makes a particularly prominent contribution to its agility. At the same time, the vehicle and track widths exactly match the BMW M4 Coupé (1,617 mm at the front and 1,605 mm at the rear), far exceeding the figures for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

The boldly contoured headlights on the BMW M2 each feature a single circular adaptive LED headlight, a design element paying homage to the legendary BMW 02 models. A large, frameless BMW kidney grille with its horizontal bars accompanies a three-section lower air intake with almost rectangular contours to give the front end of the car a familiar M look. This design has been crafted around technical requirements in terms of cooling air supply and aerodynamic balance.

Clean and clear surfaces, muscular side skirts, and flared wheel arches set the tone for the side view. The car’s silhouette is shaped by its long bonnet, short overhangs, and set-back passenger compartment. The roofline swooping down dynamically from the B-pillar, as well as the short boot lid culminating in a pronounced spoiler lip, complete the image of a compact BMW coupé with a dialled up sporting appeal. Adding form to function is the standard-fit M Carbon roof – this extremely lightweight high-tech material reduces the vehicle’s centre of gravity, further enhancing its handling agility.

Horizontally pronounced surfaces give the rear end of the new BMW M2 its structure. It features a number of individual touches such as an eye-catching spoiler lip on the boot lid, vertically arranged reflectors set deep into the outer edges of the rear apron, and a rear spoiler lip designed to generate additional downforce at the rear axle. The rear apron’s diffuser insert features a puristic design, reaching a long way towards the road. Quadruple exhaust tailpipes positioned a long way in from the outer edges complete the signature M visual treatment.

The choice of five exterior paint finishes available for the new BMW M2 includes the Zandvoort Blue solid and Toronto Red metallic shades exclusive to this model. Standard specification of the new BMW M2 includes staggered M light-alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, imbuing the M2 with agile performance attributes. These are shod with tyres measuring 275/35 ZR19 and 285/30 ZR20 at the front and rear respectively.

Six-cylinder in-line engine with instantaneous power delivery and a thrilling appetite for revs.

The version of the straight-six engine developed for the compact high-performance model with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving design stands out with its M-typical performance characteristics. Differing only in a small number of details from the engine employed in the BMW M3 and BMW M4 models, the 3.0-litre unit thrills with its urgent response, healthy appetite for revs, and linear power delivery into the highest reaches of the engine speed range.

Developing a maximum output of 460 hp, the engine under the bonnet of the new BMW M2 outguns the base unit used by its predecessor by 90 hp. Peak torque of 550 Nm is produced between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm with maximum output arriving at 6,250 rpm. The new engine revs to a maximum 7,200 rpm. The pulsating build-up of power is accompanied by an emotionally rich soundtrack generated by the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps. The oil supply system is designed to handle extremely dynamic driving situations when out on the track, as is the cooling system.

The engine’s power is relayed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic as standard. Its extremely sporty gear shifts, direct connection to the engine, and ability to execute multiple downshifts to the lowest available gear form the ideal basis for beguiling, instantaneous acceleration. It is operated by means of a selector lever sporting the latest M design, as well as shift paddles on the steering wheel. The Drivelogic function offers a choice of three shift settings.

The new BMW M2 completes the sprint to 100 km/h from rest in a blistering 4.1 seconds with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. It is capable of powering from 0 to 200 km/h in 13.5 seconds, and tops out at 250 km/h (electronically controlled). Should drivers opt for the M Driver’s Package, the top speed limit is unlocked to 285 km/h.

Rear-wheel drive, M Traction Control, and Active M Differential provide agility, precision and driving pleasure as the occasion demands.

By sending power to the rear wheels, the new BMW M2 embraces the traditional recipe for converting engine output into dynamic performance. The linear build-up of lateral acceleration forces characteristic of M models helps the driver to guide the car through corners with controlled drifts, for example. The standard M Traction Control function is also designed to allow the driver to carefully probe the vehicle’s performance limits by setting individual intervention thresholds for wheel slip limitation, with a choice of ten stages.

Another contributor to the sublime dynamics of the BMW M2 is the standard-fit Active M Differential at the rear axle. It can halt rotational speed compensation between the rear wheels whenever required, and seamlessly generate a locking effect of up to 100 per cent whenever required. This optimises traction on road surfaces offering different levels of adhesion for the left- and right-hand rear wheel, as well as improving power transfer when accelerating hard out of corners.

Sophisticated chassis technology, precisely controllable handling.

The new BMW M2 serves up exceptionally sharp responses to every movement of the accelerator and steering wheel. Its compact dimensions, short wheelbase, almost perfectly balanced 50:50 weight distribution, and sophisticated chassis technology combine to deliver precisely controllable, fingertip handling. The car’s agility, dynamism and precision also gain from the excellent torsional stiffness of the body structure and chassis mountings helped by bespoke bracing.

Both the double-joint spring strut front axle and the five-link rear axle come with M-specific kinematics. The standard equipment roster for the new BMW M2 includes adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Servotronic steering with variable ratio, and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) including M Dynamic Mode. Drivers can choose between two settings for steering response in the M Setup menu: the Comfort mode combines a light steering feel with precise feedback, and the Sport setting brings to fore a more communicative steering. This requires more force to turn the wheel for maximum precision when exploring the outer reaches of the car’s dynamic repertoire.

The BMW M2 is fitted with powerful M Compound brakes featuring six-piston, fixed-calliper brakes at the front and single-piston, floating-calliper brakes at the rear. These are painted in Red high-gloss. The integrated braking system brings together the brake activation, brake booster, and braking control functions into a compact module. It presents the driver with two pedal feel settings, allowing the choice between more comfort-oriented or very direct execution of brake pedal inputs.

Advanced sports car cockpit with BMW Curved Display as standard and the option of M Carbon bucket seats.

The driver and front passenger are welcomed by M sport seats with integral head restraints and perforated surfaces in a mix of Vernasca leather and Sensatec. For those desiring a further touch of racing flair, they can opt for M Carbon bucket seats – these feature carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the structural elements of the seat cushion and backrest. The bucket seats have cut-outs in the side bolsters and below the head restraints, thereby shaving around 10.8 kilograms off the vehicle’s weight. On all seats, the Easy-Entry function slides the front seats forward in a controlled movement when the backrests are folded, making it easier for passengers to access the rear compartment. When the backrest is upright, the new BMW M2 offers 390 litres of boot space.

The new BMW M2 boasts a driver-centric cockpit featuring M-specific readouts and controls plus setup options. On the advanced BMW Curved Display, driving-related information including Shift Lights appears in a new graphical layout on the 12.3-inch information display. M-specific widgets for vehicle setup and tyre condition are just two of the items that can be called up in the 14.9-inch control display. The BMW Head-Up Display also features M-specific readouts.

Both the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant form part of the latest-generation BMW iDrive. Based on BMW Operating System 8, it has been purpose-designed for intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle using touch control and the spoken word. The new BMW iDrive system enables personalisation with the BMW ID and My BMW App, and smartphone wireless integration for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is likewise included as standard. The BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades functionality allows new and improved vehicle functions to be imported into the new BMW M2 over the air.

The comfort features fitted as standard in the new BMW M2 include three-zone automatic climate control, BMW Live Cockpit Professional complete with the BMW Maps navigation system, ambient lighting, and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. When it comes to automated driving and parking systems, the standard-fit Driving Assistant offers Front Collision Warning, Speed Limit Display with no-overtaking indicator, Lane Departure Warning, and Park Distance Control functions. The Parking Assistant including Reversing Assistant features are similarly standard offers in Singapore.

The Setup button on the centre console provides direct access to the settings options for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system, and M Traction Control. Two overall vehicle setups can be stored and then retrieved using the M buttons on the steering wheel. The inclusion of M Drive Professional as standard allows drivers to hone their skills at the wheel of the new BMW M2 with functions such as the M Drift Analyser and M Laptimer while revelling in authentic racing flair. In addition, the M Mode button on the centre console can be used to adjust both the level of driver assistance system activity and the content shown in the information display.
